Jerry's Seafood

If you want a nice and classy place to have a seafood lunch or dinner, Jerry’s Seafood is the place to be. It all began with the owner selling freshly shucked oysters out the back of his car. Years later, he expanded to a bodega truck. Eventually he gained enough recognition to establish a restaurant in Lanham, Maryland - its original location. A second location is found in Bowie, Maryland. For more than 25 years, Jerry’s Seafood has served the Washington, D.C. area with savoring flavor.

Fun fact: there are no reservations here. Jerry’s Seafood is a first come, first serve restaurant. Although that may not seem suitable to most, it adds a unique characteristic to the place, and the food is well worth the wait! Make sure you get there early because it starts getting packed around dinner hours!

“The Crab Bomb” is the moneymaker of Jerry’s Seafood. This signature dish contains ten ounces of jumbo lump crab meat, seasoned with Old Bay to your liking, with two side dishes of your choice. Talk about good eating (YUMMM). I of course had to pay the meal its respects and order it myself. I can tell you first hand it is to die for. If you are coming with friends or family that may not like seafood, do not worry! Steaks areon the menu as well. Jerry’s Seafood highly promotes the variety of fish and shellfish they offer as well. One meal from Jerry’s will keep you coming back for more!

Clare & Don's Beach Shack

Clare and Don's Beach Shack is a very warm-welcoming and family friendly restaurant. Although it is located in Falls Church, Virginia, this cozy and vibrant building makes you feel like you are only a couple steps away from the ocean's tide. The walls are decorated with colorful patterns, pictures, and knickknacks contributed by it's visitors. Indoor and outdoor seating is available all year round as long as there is no snow. Space heaters are strategically placed around the outside seating area to help keep guests warm during the Fall and Winter seasons. One thing I love about Clare and Don's Beach Shack is that they have lots of fun events for guests to partake in. For example, there is a Karaoke Night on the first Saturday of every month, and Trivia Night every week on Wednesday nights. Beach Shack even has bands come in and play live music!

Owner David Tax and his wife opened Beach Shack with the intention of sharing a little bit of their Florida roots with the DMV. Mr. and Mrs. Tax wanted the restaurant to embody three concepts: "good food, a family atmosphere, and a place people can come to relax and just have fun." David Tax, a proud Florida Gator fan, renovated the restaurant this past year and (surprisingly enough) named the additional room "The Swamp".
("The Swamp" is a coined nickname of Florida University due to its location in Gainesville.)

Enough about the restaurant - lets get to the food! Beach Shack has a variety of foods on their menu, but specializes in seafood which is what the majority of their menu consists of. When I went, I ordered the Steak'N'Cake which is a dinner combo of juicy chargrilled flank steak and a jumbo lump crab cake (mashed potatoes and green beans as my two sides of choice). The meal was delicious, especially the crab cake!

"I wanted to incorporate food into the menu that reminded me of home but would also appeal to a variety of customers", said Tax. "We put a lot of time and thought into the combination of foods and signature dishes we created. On top of that, we wanted to create an environment that was welcoming and friendly. We want our customers to feel at home and eager to come back and spend time with us."

Well, Dave, you found yourself a loyal customer and fan in me! If you appreciate good seafood and a vibrant atmosphere, Clare and Don's Beach Shack is calling your name!

Chasin' Tails

Chasin' Tails. With a name like that you may guess that this place is a bar. Yes, there is a very nice bar in this establishment, but the drinks are not what this place is known for. Chasin' Tails is a seafood restaurant found in Arlington, Virginia. This family owned restaurant made its debut in April of 2012, and it's business has been booming ever since!

Chasin' Tails offers a family style dining that mimics a backyard boil, a traditional event that takes place all over Louisiana during crawfish season. Not only is the food here outstanding, but the dining experience is one you will never forget! Chasin' Tails was described as "one of the messiest restaurants you will probably ever eat at" by owner and good friend of mine, Boaz Lyu. I must say, when I sat down to eat and was offered wet wipes, napkins, plastic gloves, and a bib - I was a bit nervous, but also very intrigued.

The Chasin' Tails backyard boil experience starts with the Bayou N' A Bag. Literally, all of your food will be served to you in bags, but do not be alarmed! Guests pick out the type of seafood they would like to enjoy, and then select one of Chasin' Tails signature sauces. This adds intense flavor and a wonderful aroma to your meal. Each bag comes equipped with a baked potato and corn on the cob, all drenched in your desired sauce. They are most famous for their crawfish, which is harvested in Belle River and sent directly from Louisiana! People from all over the DMV are make their way to Arlington to taste their fresh crawfish.

Business has been so good for Chasing Tails in the past three years that the owners are already looking to expand. Owner Boaz Lyu said, "After opening Chasin' Tails, we have developed a parent company which will oversee all the restaurant concepts we are working on." Chasin' Tails is currently in the middle of opening two smaller concepts in Tyson's Corner and Centreville, Virginia.

"We are very active on social media", continued Lyu. "Many costumers are actually driven by our Facebook and Instagram page to come check us out. People sharing their photos of our food and their dining experience speaks a thousand words."

If you are looking for some great Louisiana styled seafood and a fun, unique experience, Chasin' Tails is the restaurant for you!

Message to customers from owner Boaz Lyu: "We live by the motto, "If you ain't smilin', you ain't buyin'". We understand that without our customers, we do not exist and we do our best to show them our gratitude. We are also very involved in community outreach.
